UArctic thematic Network Teacher Education and UNITWIN/UNESCO network on Teacher Education are organizing a webinar as part of UN International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019.

Assosciate professor Frank Deer from University of Manitoba will speak about The Emerging Concern for Indigenous Language Education in Public Education in Canada.
The webinar will be held on Tuesday 8th October 2019, at 12.00 CDT (UTC-5) / 20.00 EEST (UTC +3). You can check your local time here. The webinar will be presented via Adobe Connect. Please test your connection before the webinar begins. The link for the Adobe Connect room is here.

Associate professor Frank Deer’s presentation will report on a study that is investigating how public school districts in Canada are responding to the educational imperatives associated with indigenous language programming. The main goals for this study are: 1) investigate public school involvement in indigenous language programming, 2) explore language in the contexts of disciplinary subjects, community involvement, relevant pedagogies, educational learning materials, professional development, staffing, policy and other relevant factors, and 3) examine the importance of indigenous languages in supporting social and cultural identity development.

Joining the webinar is free of charge. The presentation will last 20 to 40 minutes, and after that there is time reserved for a conversation.

We hope you will be able to attend the webinar!
