Council of Representatives of Karelians, Veps and Finns of the Republic of Karelia under the Head of the Republic of Karelia

Igor Korsakov, Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia for Domestic Policy, chaired the first meeting of the Council of Representatives of Karelians, Veps and Finns of the Republic of Karelia under the Head of the Republic of Karelia in 2024.

Among the issues discussed is the interaction between industrial companies and Vepsian rural settlements.

Mikhail Polyakov and Victoria Butorina, heads of Ryboretsky and Shokshinsky Veps rural settlements, presented examples of such cooperation at the Council.

The second issue of the Council meeting concerned business support programs in the republic, which is especially important for ensuring employment of citizens who live in remote settlements.

In 2023, scientists of the linguistics sector of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History of Karelian Research Centre held an Interregional marathon of recordings of Veps and Karelian speech "Listening to the native dialect"
