Community-based research: Practice report and guidelines for reasoned field research

In this practical lecture, the language situation in Mexico will be highlighted, with the focus on the speaker’s experiences in the conception and implementation of a community-based study on the vitality of the Yucatan Mayan. On the basis of research-ethical considerations, the guiding idea of speaker-centeredness is presented, which is reflected in the planning, methodology and approach as well as the results of the research work: The research design was developed in close contact with representatives of the comunidades and reflected and adapted throughout the entire survey and evaluation process. The integration and participation of the comunidades are seen as a prerequisite for the validity of the research results and the potential success of revitalisation initiatives based on them.
