The national Mordovian holiday “Shumbrat” united guests from 10 regions in the Ulyanovsk region

On May 27, on the Day of Friendship of the Peoples of the Ulyanovsk Region, at 11 o’clock in the park “Vladimir Garden” the tenth anniversary national Mordovian holiday Shumbrat was held. This year the celebration is dedicated to the Year of the teacher and mentor.

For the holiday, the Ulyanovsk region hosted guests from Mordovia, Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Bashkortostan, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Samara, Moscow regions.

At the entrance to the park, the guests of the holiday were met by the folk ensemble of the Mordovian song “Erzyankoit” (“Erzya traditions”) with the performance of the Mordovian folk song “Semanultsya” and pupils of preschool institutions in national costumes.

Many different venues worked on the territory of the park: an exhibition of books in Mordovian and Russian languages, a performance by Mordovian poets, an exhibition and master classes by wood carvers “Man-made miracles”, master classes in arts and crafts “Culture of the Mordovian people”, sites “Journey to secrets of the native language”, “Active longevity”, “Ishtek”, the sports ground “Games of Tyushti” and national Mordovian farmsteads.

A theatrical prologue was held on the central stage with the participation of the Varma ethno-art theater. The author’s compositions of the ethno-art theater presented a modern interpretation of folk art culture in the fashion space.

The festive program of the event was attended by creative teams of the Republic of Mordovia and municipalities of the Ulyanovsk region.

The holiday is aimed at preserving and developing interest in the Mordovian language, culture and customs of the Moksha-Erzya people among the younger generation, as well as maintaining interethnic peace and harmony in the region.

This collaborative platform was established to enable the community of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022–2032) to share events, activities, and resources. The content published on the platform is the responsibility of registered users and does not commit the Secretariat of the Decade (UNESCO) and/or the Members of the Global Task Force for Making a Decade of Action for Indigenous Languages. Please note that the platform has been inactive since February 2025 and no longer accepts new uploads. While work is underway to provide an updated solution, the Secretariat of IDIL 2022–2032 remains available for any inquiries at: indigenous.languages@unesco.org.
