The courses on the study of Karelian, Veps and Finnish languages were completed at the Resource Language Media Center of Karelians, Veps and Finns of the Republic of Karelia.

From the autumn of last year until spring, everyone was taught to read, write and speak the languages of the indigenous peoples of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the beginning of each academic year, the Center publishes information about the recruitment of those who want to study at the courses. At the beginning of the academic year 2022-2023, about 120 people enrolled in the courses. By the end of the school year, there were 8-12 permanent “students” in groups who attended each lesson and who purposefully study their native language in order to preserve their roots and language, or simply interested in indigenous languages, explained the Center’s specialist Alina Kartinen.

The study of the Livvikov, Karelian and Ludikov dialects of the Karelian language, as well as the Vepsian language takes place in offline groups. There are groups for beginners and groups for continuing education. Finnish is studied in 3 groups. In total, 12 language groups are engaged in the Center.

The courses will continue next year, and teachers are waiting for both new and “old” students.
