International Scientific and Practical Conference called ‘Polylingual Education as a Basis for Preserving the Linguistic Heritage and Cultural Diversity of Humanity’.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, the Institute of History and Archaeology of Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and the Ossetian Language Development Centre.

The conference provided a forum for the presentation and discussion of scientific and scientific-methodological works on the problems of elaboration and development of multicultural and polylingual education, on linguistic, cultural, psychological, pedagogical and other aspects accompanying it.

The event was graced by the presence of Elvira Aitkulova, who serves as the deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Ph. D. candidate at the M. Karim International Centre for the Promotion of the Russian Language, and Ph. D. student at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Ph. D. Ella Alibekova, who serves as the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, and Tamerlan Kambolov, who serves as the Head of the Department of Multicultural and Multilingual Education of the Ossetian Language Development Centre of the Institute of History and Archaeology, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Alina Levitskaya, Head of the Cultural Heritage Department of the Institute of History and Archaeology, Svetlana Semenova, Leading Researcher of the Centre for the Study, Preservation and Development of Native Languages of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The conference brought together teachers and representatives of executive authorities from Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Bashkiria, and Kurgan Oblast.

The conference was held in two days: 1-2 October 2024.

On the first day, the conference was held at the North Ossetian Pedagogical College. Four sections discussed the preservation and development of languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation and the development of a polylingual model of multicultural education.

On the second day, the participants had a practical part. The guests learnt about the results of polylingual education in the republic. They visited open lessons at the Alan Gymnasium, and also visited kindergartens No. 95 and No. 60, where open classes in polylingual groups were held. Seminars and masterclasses for teachers were also held on the basis of the Alan Gymnasium and SOPK.
