Indigenous Languages for the conservation of World Heritage
On the occasion of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages, this seminar will demonstrate the link between the languages of Indigenous Peoples, their environmental knowledge and the conservation of Indigenous (World) Heritage, featuring case studies from across the world. The event will raise awareness about Indigenous Peoples as custodians of cultural and natural heritage for effective conservation and about their environmental knowledge expressed through the languages of indigenous peoples. Panelists will include relevant experts, indigenous representatives and members of the International Indigenous Peoples Forum for World Heritage (IIPFWH).
The event is organized thanks to a financial contribution from the Parks Canada Agency and support of Canadian National Commission for UNESCO.
