Back to the roots

On July 19, the National and Local History Literature Department of the National Library of the Chechen Republic hosted a unique folk lesson, “Folk Art and Crafts,” which attracted the attention of art lovers. The initiative is aimed at preserving and popularizing the rich cultural heritage of the Chechen people, based on traditions and crafts that are passed down from generation to generation.

During the event, participants learned about the history of Chechen folk art and crafts. Chief Librarian Fatima Doshaeva spoke about the symbolism of traditional ornaments, their meaning and place in the everyday life of Chechens. Participants in the folk lesson learned that ornaments decorating not only clothes but also household items have deep roots and express the richness of the culture and spiritual world of the people.

After the theoretical part, everyone was able to create works of art with their own hands. Using simple tools and multi-colored paints the participants painted a national ornament on wood. This not only allowed them to immerse themselves in the creative process but also reinforced the acquired knowledge with practical skills.

As part of the folk lesson readers also got acquainted with a book exhibition, which presented literature about the rich culture and national traditions of the Chechen people.

Such events play a key role in popularizing the traditional culture of the Chechen Republic. In the modern world where many influences and styles are concentrated returning to the roots and restoring interest in folk crafts contributes not only to the preservation of cultural identity but also to the spiritual enrichment of society.
